Trinket
a poem

You're a collector of pretty things.
"Trinkets," you said, "don't have to worry about anything,
except to stay where you're assigned and always look pretty."
So here I am, a pristine figurine,
quiet and still and the occasional talking point.
*
But pretty and perfect is stressful
and I still worry.
Is my lipstick smudged?
Are my colored nails chipped?
Is my posture just so?
*
I want to think
beyond rigid lines and unblemished.
What is it like to worry and crack,
to twist and flow like the morning air?
What is it like to be human?
*
But you're a collector of pretty things
and you aren't going to let me go,
unless I leap off the edge,
f
all
ing towards freedom,
and b re ak.

What an incredible poem! Love the formatting work at the end and the narrative voice of the figurine was so compelling
Both the words and the structure work together so well to tell the desperate narrative. Well done!
This poem was fantastic! I can really relate to it because I wrote something similar once, check it out, of course, only if you want to: https://shopping-feedback.today/poets/how-to-create-a-character-flaw-y77lo0xsd%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
I have felt this way many times. It's a bit heartbreaking seeing it in poetry but you did it so beautifully.
Hope is right! you are a wonderful poet! the more I read by you, the more I love your work. I too found this emotional and feel it may be inpiring to someone trapped in a toxic relationship! well done, Alexandria
