Another night, she’s out on the town,
he doesn’t give her a frown,
but he side smiles and winks,
and offers her another drink,
of course she accepts,
and he watches her next delayed step.
They don’t think about their families at home,
with one another, they flirt and roam.
It was all years ago, but it feels like it was this very night,
I forgive her but it feels impossible to forget this blasted emotional blight.
Outside, the sound of gentle crickets,
pulls me away from the thick of it.
I smile and feel tremendous joy,
because I rest assured that long suffering and sacrifice, I did employ.

Such vulnerability in this piece, powerfully written. Great work.
Ooh this one hits hard and soft all at once. “I smile and feel tremendous joy,”— powerful! ✨
