to the dying spirit of an unread book.
a parting letter.
dearest love
misery and cauldron of magic
i feel the dance and flicker
of your spirit still
as you succumb
don't leave me
to the long defeat
of pages unturned and
spines grown too stiff
your voice struck dumb
songs long forgotten
but with a prance and whicker
of some coltish fucked up joy
i still get side stabs
of how we were
when we were young together
we battled hard my love
and got there in the end
so let's never forget
that one perfect moment
alone together at the end
but the battle made me old
too hard and soft
and your spark has grown
sad gone cold
we're both so tired
too many voices joined in song
suggestions from those
who never met your
spirit
they drowned you out
and the worst thing
that will haunt a
small unknown
part of my soul
is that we let them
farewell and adieu
and know that i carry you
on my skin and in
my heart
a beautiful stain
i can't stay to die here
but i'll leave you never
you came from my soul so
I am
yours forever

wow - I've never written a book before. My hat is off to anyone who has. This poem is so bittersweet. I've felt this way (on a much smaller scale) for my little short stories. Excellent poem!
This is great.
