To My Father

This is a poem I wrote for one of my friends who’s currently experiencing this situation. This isn’t my reality but instead I chose to write a very short poem about their story.

See I was no hood kid getting to trouble at the age of eight.

Never had a father dealing real estate.

Was just an average kid waiting to take my place

In a world so full of hate.

Just trying to spread love so I hope y’all appreciate.

I don’t care bout the hate, cuz now it’s my time.

Got real life to worry bout, ain’t no time for that once upon a time

Got no time for negativity, I got no time for these lies.

I’m just trying to inspire my people after I spit a rhyme

I hope y’all ready cuz I’m aboutta paint a picture.

Daddy comes hone late from work and mommy crying reading a scripture

Mommy wants someone to lean on but daddy ditched her

For a woman who’s younger and richer, it’s sad to think but it’s a reality that’s getting bigger.
