To Give Over a Message

"Tell all the truth but tell it slant" - Emily Dickinson

It is not to compare a message understood

from an outsider than from one's own mind.

And so, when telling a tale of depth,

you must hide the moral in a form they must find.

*

A lesson grasped from one's own insight

is one that remains forevermore.

More than a teacher who claims to know

but then builds nothing besides for bore.

*

Conceal your words in wisps of wisdom.

Build a backdrop and let your message blend in.

Watch an audience as their eyes ignite

with the pleasure of discovering a self-revealed doctrine.

*

And while you stand in the shadows of silence

your heart will swell with hidden pride.

Now they have felt the beauty of finding

the message you searched your thesaurus to hide.
