Holding onto the memories that time can’t erase
No matter the changes that life throws my way
Remembering the smile and shape of your face
As I place the ornaments on my tree
*
The laughter and tears that are all part of our story
When we were tied down together - always you there before me
Never doubted you held all my pieces there for me
Until I could carry them all on my own
*
You guided and prodded, always giving me your best
You held it together, whenever put to the test
When things got out of hand, you held me close to your chest
Making sure I was ready to fly
*
And I did
*
I did as we do, I flew off and left you behind
Made a world of my own, with thoughts of you on my mind
You always said grow and go, that’s my job, you cannot rewind
Time has a way of pushing ahead
*
But on days like today when the weather turns cold
And my children are all grownup with lives all their own
And I long for a moment to steal away home
Where you always made me feel loved
*
So, even though I can’t hold you and feel your touch
I remember you showing - that you loved me so much
And I carry you with me here when things get too tough
Because your memory is always enough
