Sitting here
Looking at your picture
Thinking of all we had
Remembering how I told you
I wanted nothing more than to be a dad
And watching your heartbreak
As sadness seeped in
Because you thought
That could never be
Between you and me
It would never work you said
As we laid in your bed
Your head buried in my chest
No matter if we did our best
There was no way
Because that day
We were trapped in a prison
Of perception
You said no one would fall for our deception
There was no amount of misdirection
Or discretion
That would work
The world would know
They weren’t completely ours
As long as you were in tow
You feared that no matter what
It would show
That somehow
They would know
I’m sorry for it all
I never wanted to hurt you
I just wanted to answer your call

So beautiful and sad! Very moving.
your poetry describes such strength and longing. This is beautiful.
The cry of the heart in memories of love that will not fade, though not sustained as two made one.
