Thriving After Surviving
Thoughts of the past come and go
Childhood trauma, grief, and loss here
So much worry, anger, and fear
Racism alive
And will I survive
I can strive
Shed a tear
~
Wounded warrior, and now I’m free
Left me bloody and bleeding, see
Alcohol, drugs, man,
Food? Couldn’t outran
What’s the plan?
God save me!
~
Survivor no more, but rather
a thriver! Yes, me no other
than I stepped on through
a healing breakthrough
Counted coup
Oh brother!

Yes, a thriver!! Love the poem and the poetry form <3
Hallelujah!🤩 Wonderful poem, love these lines: “ What’s the plan? God save me! ~ Survivor no more, but rather a thriver!” I will have to attempt a Clogyrnach sometime.
Survivor to thriver, you did it! Well written, Denise, and thank you for introducing me to the Clogyrnach!
I can understand now how you turn to unhealthy habits in the past . It helped you feel sanitize from the trauma. I am glad you did not let it controlled your whole life. As we get older we dont need such habits to escape reality. We learned healthy coping skills.
You are a person who learns and accepts things and ideas from life and uses them. Good job.
This hit deep. Respect. 🙏
It is good to thrive, Surviving is necessary at times but I am glad you are through that
