Thoughts of Joy
Stream of consciousness from a wounded heart.
Center, the cool air grazing my heated skin.
Exhale, don’t let yourself think.
Groaning with satisfaction, it feels good to stretch.
I push away thoughts of her face—those sparkling eyes,
twinkling thoughts, making my heart skip.
Center, she doesn’t deserve your devotion.
Exhale. I almost feel her hand, soft and warm, fitting into mine.
I hear her laughter.
CENTER. The sound bounces around my aching heart,
deafening in the silence, she left.
Exhale. I’m sinking back into wanting, needing, and aching for her.
CENTER.
EXHALE.
The sounds of her moans, raw and real, fill my heart.
My body responds to the memory, aching and rising for more.
Just keep breathing.
Cut off from her,
taken by someone else,
wrapped in disappointment.
I never stood a chance at all.

Love it! I
So, so stunning—a perfect combination of beauty and pain.
I love how you've kept in the complexity of heartbreak.
I love how this shows that heartbreak can interrupt us even when we are trying to find a happy place, and when we close our eyes we are face to face with our memories as if we are reliving them again, but the most painful are often clearer. Very well written, it was a lovely combination to mix mediation with intense broken connections.
What a heartbreaking yet lovely poem. Congratulations on your Top Story.
