Those moments of sanity

sure do get in the way

Deep mind-numbing clarity

has led me astray

Oh, to escape back to a time

before it was too late

My kingdom for a rhyme

that rescues from hate

If a kiss after midnight

on the eve of a new year

Would change wrong to right

my lips, I'd gladly volunteer

But until it's guaranteed

my chapstick will stay in my purse

I've been brought to my knees

by a falseness, rehearsed

Tricked and trapped in a guise

with words sultry and alluring

Until tears fell from my eyes

from the stench of its manuring

Spread to get a result, without

regard for the outcome

Left a bad taste in my mouth

to its lure, I succumbed

But to live is to learn

and this lesson I give you

When the stench doesn't make your eyes burn

then, it's probably too good to be true

This new year's poem does seem define this idea pretty well. Good job.

Oof, like a slap in the face! You always convey such powerful emotions. Excellent.

This poem carries such raw emotion and vulnerability, capturing the conflict between desire, deception, and the painful lessons that come with them. The imagery of "sanity getting in the way" and "tears from the stench of its manuring" is both striking and visceral, underscoring the discomfort and regret of being deceived. The metaphor of a kiss after midnight, while hopeful, contrasts sharply with the reality of the emotional betrayal, reminding us that things often aren’t as they seem. The final lines are powerful, a wise reflection on the importance of trusting our instincts when something feels “too good to be true.” It’s a compelling blend of caution and self-awareness—one that resonates deeply.

Yeah. That last line is probably correct. Well done.
