Things That Can’t Leave”

Verse 1

I’m good at loving books,

The kind that never walk away—

Stories that stay open

Even when I close the day.

I’m good at loving soft bed sheets,

Warm and waiting when I’m tired—

They never ask for anything,

They never get inspired to leave.

Chorus

I’m good at loving things

That can’t love me back,

That don’t have the power to leave

Or the heart to turn their backs.

Maybe that’s the reason

I hold them close to me—

I’m good at loving things

That stay where they’re supposed to be.

Verse 2

I’m good at loving coffees

And a dozen kinds of tea—

Little rituals of comfort

That don’t depend on me.

I’m good at loving quiet,

The kind that fills an empty room—

It never breaks a promise,

Never leaves too soon.

Chorus

I’m good at loving things

That can’t love me back,

That don’t have the power to leave

Or the heart to turn their backs.

Maybe that’s the reason

I hold them close to me—

I’m good at loving things

That stay where they’re supposed to be.

Bridge

Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough

To love something that breathes—

Something wild and unpredictable

With a heart that actually needs.

But until that day comes calling,

I’ll take comfort where I can—

In the things that never vanish

When I reach out my hand.

Verse 3

So here’s to all the small things

That keep me company—

The pages, sheets, and quiet cups

That ask for nothing back from me.

And maybe someday I’ll open

A door I’ve kept closed tight—

But for now, I love the simple things

That stay with me at night.

Final Chorus

I’m good at loving things

That can’t love me back,

That don’t have the power to leave

Or the heart to turn their backs.

Maybe that’s the reason

I hold them close to me—

I’m good at loving things

That stay where they’re supposed to be.

Outro

And maybe that’s why I love them—

They stay,

And that’s enough for me.
