Some say they twinkle

I can hear their alien hum –

Cold songs of the void

The story behind the story: when I watched the stars as a child, I was sure they were emitting sounds. I could feel their low vibrations resonate deep inside my body. Adults were amused hearing me say that the stars hum but other kids listened with open mouths to my stories of singing stars and alien races living there who might be looking up to the sky this very minute so that our eyes could meet and we wouldn't even know. I guess I was a storyteller even then. And you know what? The stars really can sing (or rather scientists can make them do it).

When I was a kid, I was convinced I could touch them... the taller I grew, the further away they were!
