They Are Big Things

Gratitude poem

Today, I have savored,

Spring sunlight,

hills with mustard blooms,

flying swallows,

finch and sparrow songs,

garden peas,

foraged kumquats

and feijoa petals.

Watercolors art session,

some published articles,

meaningful engagement —

homemade meals,

a restful siesta.

Teaching my kids

as I took them

on nature walks.

Healthy body,

good enough

to make the strolls,

enriching, and joyful.

Botanical creativity,

apple blossoms

crescent moon,

tea from spouse.

Why would I,

not feel grateful?

Appreciate such little blessings,

for if you don't,

one day — you will see,

they were big things.
