The World Is Unjust

And I'm the real victim here.

Now let me tell you – all of you!

about the calamity that fell upon me.

.

Imagine this!

Sunday morning, summertime.

I’m minding my own business,

wind gently ruffles through my hair,

caresses tail and whiskers.

And then!

I caught a fragrance honey-like

Maddening!

I tried not to shed a tear.

.

But I should have known,

I should have seen,

that girl was trouble through and through.

A witch, I say!

Too good to actually be true.

So she must suffer,

now she must pay!

.

Her laughter, soft and chiming,

as a fairy’s snowdrop doorbell

tinkled on my eardrums, dearly –

hypnotized me nearly.

And when she sang it was as if

the full moon’s pull at midnight’s fall.

Her hair was down and flowing loose,

if only I’d have known,

those same golden locks one day

would twist and form my hanging noose.

And I didn’t even tell you yet

about her crimson mini-dress.

.

Oh my, oh my, oh my, oh my!

The last of sense and reason

slammed the door on me

without goodbye,

when in my mind I cracked black pepper

to masterfully season

that blessing of a bite.

I licked my lips, prepared myself

for a feast unprecedented,

backed up a bit to take a leap,

to catch my prey as God intended.

.

But oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!

I must have calculated wrong!

What did my poor ears have to hear?

An uncharitable shotgun BANG!

The bullet whistled by my head,

left behind a waft of death.

Not a single bite for me today,

instead I run 'til out of breath.

.

Five of them, just one of me!

How is it fair and righteous?

The end is near, I can see!

They wouldn’t even let her meet

my big round eyes, my sharpened teeth.

.

I got shoved into a cage of metal.

Locked! And key got thrown away.

They munch on cake and glug the wine

to celebrate the years' best prey.

.

My fate is hard, you must admit!

The world has wronged me yet again!

It’s injustice indescribable!

Really, she should take the blame

for tempting me in countless ways!

To ease the pain I howl at moon,

and curse her 'til the end of days,

Damn you, Little Red Riding-Hood!
