The Word 'Memento' Has Two "Me's" In It
Bring your Me. Come with. Make memories.
Too long withheld birr
transformed many a landscape
dwelling place
temple
eager initiate
into fossilized curiosities
and then
studied them at leisure
But now
air recoils should silence take breath
So it doesn't…
feigns ineptitude…
plays fool
Molecules squeeze obeisance
under childhood “Stuck-in-the-Mud” ground rules
Nothing and no one moves
Unless…
Where could a void live
that none would question its reason?
And how far down does your soul go
and why don't you know this already?
Consistent monotonous nothingness
threatens spontaneous combustion
plus a spirit unafraid to fuel it
Before me
stretch vast seas of faces
Generations/technology/modern conveniences
separate me
from what might as well be
the dark side of the moon
with journeys on foot/pedal cycle/donkey
for days and days at a time
over humidity and dust
with night after night of cool and cleanse
Communion with friends—now family—from lessons
These hardships considered
a burden-inconvenience-bother
placemarks along the way
simply for one to slow down
Evaluate what's important
A reverse-optometrist visit
where payment given is
'attention-affection'
no longer withheld
as you clear the last rise
catch glimmers of Atlantic coast
while camels and horses race across beach sands
On your behalf
I accept all-over embrace
from the strongest summer sun that ever lived
and let its songs splash over places in me
I never once
dreamed became this dry

Marvelous!!! Absolutely Marvelous!!! Love it, SSS!!!❤️❤️💕
Standout lines galore, wow just wow! This particular part really hit home for me: "Consistent monotonous nothingness threatens spontaneous combustion plus a spirit unafraid to fuel it"
So many flooring lines in this, Dani! A momentous poem from start to finish!
Loved the “reverse-optometrist” moment especially. Sometimes we forget how thirsty we’ve been until the sun finds us again.💖
Fossilised curiosities, I really loved that. Obedience is a new word for me. I especially loved your ending!
