The Way In
When you are the key: a poem inspired by Shia LaBoeuf's conversion.

The day you find the way in –
When the open hand ready to receive inside the lock,
Opens to your key.
In that moment –
Everything changes.
*
The frantic forging of the treasured key –
That, self commissioned once off piece,
Shining, mirroresque, bejeweled –
That tarnishes beyond belief.
The culmination of ‘the time of your life’
That failed,
To impress you or anyone else.
*
Vanity, humbled by the passing days –
Softened by the rocks
Life tosses unwarning,
From within, without –
Into the deepest waters where you floundered,
Out at sea.
Surviving tsunamis.
*
Waiting for this moment –
When the tiny, rusted, mangy, crusted key,
Opens the latch
To discover –
Where peace lives.
