A clash of wills, a nation's test,

A war unseen, a silent quest.

No armies marched, no cannons roared,

A struggle fought on foreign shore.

A diamond's gleam, a nation's pride,

A conflict born, where passions died.

The British sought, a precious stone,

A claim of right, a prize unknown.

The Boer stood firm, their land to keep,

A battle fought, on mountain steep.

With rifles raised, and hearts aflame,

They fought for freedom, honor's name.

A long and bitter war ensued,

A test of courage, fortitude.

The British yielded, their claim withdrawn,

A victory won, a nation born.
