The Tuk-Tuk and The Dogs
Would I Get Home Faster?

The bus queues were long
I gravitated toward the tuk-tuk stand
To get home faster, I thought
****
There was only one tuk-tuk
It was not much of a beauty
But there was not much of a choice
I decided to take my chances
To get home faster, I thought
****
The door would not close normally
The driver had to work his magic to secure it
But I did not think much of it
My aim, after all, was
To get home faster, I thought
****
Off we went, and then it started drizzling
The side flaps would not stay down
I had to hold them down
Still, no problem, I reasoned
After all, I would get home faster, I thought
****
At a hill climb near home
The tuk tuk lost power
It heaved, struggled, and pulled
The neighborhood dogs noticed and gave chase
My time was split between fighting the dogs
And securing my bags
Would I get home faster? I wondered
In the end, the tuk-tuk gave up the race
It surrendered and stopped by the roadside
With no challenge, the dogs gave up the chase
They went to look for a more formidable, moving adversary
And I walked the rest of the way home
Did I get home faster? I wonder
****
