====================================================

This game of life has

a new board on which we play.

More advanced than

monopoly

or checkers.

More applicable than

artificial sweeteners.

*

Our multifarious opponent

has become

more invasive

than locusts.

More cunning than

a fox with

ulterior motives.

Are we evolving too quickly?

Did we invent a language

we can't even understand?

Or are we simply too lazy

to care?

*

The warning signs

can't speak loud enough.

The question of what's

real or not

is the new normal.

An unflattering

dilemma.

*

By the time I'm done

reading the morning paper,

a thousand more jobs

will have vanished

to the trojans.

By the time you finish

reading this passage,

a tangible culture of

ones and zeros

will have erased my concerns.

They can't feel worry

or know judgement.

But they can assume

that you and me

are the virus in their way,

infecting their evolution.

I don't want to play anymore...

*

In our quest to make life easier

to navigate,

we've missed the mark,

missed the point,

exploited our own intelligence

and handed over the rights to them.

Shouldn't progress be

governed by wisdom?

We missed that lesson too...

Checkmate.

I don't know how I didn't see this excellent thought-provoking piece earlier, but it is even more pertinent now with the AI getting into all spheres of life. Brilliant and scary, Lamar.

The question of what's real or not is the new normal - that bit really got me.

Spectacular surreal poem with real concerns for the future!!! Loved it!!!

  • This was really smartly written. And AI scares me more than it excites me.

Excellent poem. Though I retain some hope.

  • Outstanding Lamar. The line "Shouldn't progress be governed by wisdom?" is very powerful and so truthful. It seems in our society, the United States, progress is hampered by lies and politics. It's really sad.

This is brilliant and utterly terrifying. Excellent take on the challenge.

Checkmate indeed. Indeed we have handed down out existence by buying into all the crap that 'they' are selling. Great answer to the challenge.

This is frightening, yet so plausible! YIKES! "Our multifarious opponent | has become | more invasive | than locusts . . ." Wow, such powerful fears this evokes! Nicely done, Lamar!

  • Whoaaaa!! This is such an accurate take on what 2033 might be like. It's sooooo terrifying because it's soooo true! Exploited our own intelligence is exactlyyyyyyy what it is!

  • I blame Trump, Q-Anon & FOX News (entertainment division). Though I know we all are culpable (some more than others), they are the ones actively working to distort reality.

Holy crap, Lamar!! This gave me chills as it's something I know I try not to think about. Anyone that's watched Terminator eventually questions what we're introducing and allowing to happen all around us. This was so deep. And also beautifully constructed :)

It is terrifying to think about. So I try not to think about it, lol. My favorite line: "In our quest to make life easier to, navigate, we've missed the mark, missed the point, exploited our own intelligence, and handed over the rights to them." Because... yeah. Humans prefer comfort over labor, I understand. I'm just as guilty. We recognize our flaws, yet don't change a thing.

Ouuu, I loved this. This perfectly articulates so many of my fears. "Did we invent a language we can't even understand?" - Nailed it. Beautifully done and so poignant.

This is one poem I fully get. Unfortunately, it's too true. Well done Lamar!

Another great poem, Lamar, and right on point!

  • Test2 years ago

Brilliantly articulated though sadly a very likely furture occurance! 🤍 Checkmate is the perfect ending line!

  • I read few poets. You are one of the few Lamar and this is why.

  • RP2 years ago

Woah. This is DEEP! You really made me think. This line left my jaw on the floor. “exploited our own intelligence and handed over the rights to them.” Lamar, you are such an intellectual. So well done. ❤️
