The Treasure of Autumn

Everywhere you look, the trees are covered in shimmering jewels.

October is one of the most vibrant colors upon Mother Nature’s palette.

It seems as if every tree branch, bush and shrub actually anticipates the donning of their brilliant fall wardrobe.

Soon winter will come and they shall disrobe their vibrant displays for their winter’s rest.

Blankets of snow shall cover their bare limbs as the January winds howl.

~

As old Jack Frost prepares for his slumber, sweet Crocuses pop their heads up from asunder.

The earth becomes covered in velvety green, as pale green buds are soon to be seen.

Spring leads to the warmth of each summer where floral displays burst forth from our Earth Mother.

Sunny/Sun scorched nights lend to balmy summer nights.

~

As the days begin to shorten and September draws near

I hold my breath in anticipation of a month I will always hold so dear

It’s October again and what a brilliant jewel to behold!

Yellow, orange, and reds each one oh so bold.

~

The trees shimmy their leaves beneath the cool autumn sun.

As we mortals stare open-mouthed, in awe, of them shining beneath the sun.

My children laugh and romp, jumping into the raked leaf piles.

~

They see me watching and wave, gracing me with their smiles.

“Mom! Look at all of our leaves! This is so much fun!”

My daughter skips towards me, while her brother jumps to his feet and begins to run.

~

Their favorite specimens placed upon my palm.

I inspect the leaves of every color lying there,

And in this moment I’m without a single care.

~

I gaze down at their expectant stares,

“Which color is your favorite, Mom?”

“Oh, I could never pick just one!”

“Me neither! I love each and every one!”
