The Thief
What do you have to offer in exchange,
For my time spent, may life stories to exclaim?
Is it some somber walk you want to assign,
Some partnership, some fellowship to which you’re inclined.
There have been those who’ve offered in-kind,
These very same qualities, concessions in time.
But having received what was requested from me,
Have left me tearful, rejected, empty you see.
On batted breath, I’ve often stood waiting,
For some promise, some evidence of your persuading.
But alas, the gift was surrendered to others,
Those who were unable to see what you had covered.
Underneath those silver linings can be seen,
Torrents of usury and spirits very mean.
Under the shadows of overhead clouds,
Are those who use and exploit the awaiting crowds?
So, continue walking wherever you choose,
But remember that people who offend always lose.
My life, whatever it may have been or will become,
Has nothing to do with you as stated by some.
It’s been my choices along the way,
Not all have turned out great, but that’s okay.
But one thing has rung true o’re my journey,
I made my own choices whether sunny or gloomy.
So, to answer your question that was put forth,
I have nothing left to give you henceforth.
Make your own way as I’ve tried to do,
I’m not your banker or servant or your life’s glue.
