Woody woodpecker was his name.

He ate birdseed and took some blame

for eating too many seeds.

He took more than he needs.

****

Woody strutted all about.

He really wanted to shout.

What happened to the bugs in the trees,

bring them back please.

****

“I have eaten too many seeds.”

Woody was tired and pleads.

“I ate so much I can only squeek.”

Sam was shocked and could only peek.

Sam couldn’t believe he heard Woody speak.

****

Did Woody really only peep

like a chick or like the horn on a jeep?

Yes, he did. Let’s get those bugs back

for Woody before he is pecking at my shack!

****

That happened once before

I straightened that out four

years ago.

I don’t know

if I can do that again

it wasn’t nice to put Woody in a pen.

****

What about the talking bird?

Is that really what I heard?

Maybe not.

Give me a shot

at explaining that a way

After all if I can just say

Woody may be part parrot,

as he does love his carrots.
