It's hard to describe the emotion,

when that small box arrives at your door.

It's not the first time a special delivery,

has brought lovely things, like before.

*

But, this one today, stopped me in my tracks,

I thought I'd moved past, just a little.

It put me right back on the floor, to my knees,

leaving my heart and soul, broken and brittle.

A reminder that love for another is strong,

some of the best love comes from 4 paws and soft fur.

Conversations made with wiggles and barks,

returning affections unearned.

*

You changed us the moment we met you,

changed us more with each passing day.

your fun loving spirit, and snuggles,

worth more than we could ever repay.

So, it's not hard to believe we would miss you,

just how much though, caught us off guard

getting this beautiful box, with what's left behind,

took the breath from my lungs, kind of hard.

*

I imagine your face on the other side of that bridge,

ears alert, tail wagging so fast.

And I remember the way you made us all better,

with love, the kind that through healing, will last.

Through my tears I welcome this new day,

a new journey I will find a way through.

With a new charm of your nose, to wear round' my neck,

and the sweet tiny pieces of you.

love poems

So beautifully said. I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet pup. The love of an animal is so innocent and pure, it's impossible not to miss it.

Oh no - this is a wonderful poem, but I hate it for bringing the lump to my throat. Been there too many times. 😢 Excellent work! And I'm so sorry.
