The Star Chart of Me

dim the lights

let eager eyes adjust

to the absence of artificiality

gaze upon the star chart

directing you through my substance

test my topography

read my history

like a braille biography

༘⋆₊ ⊹★🔭๋࣭ ⭑⋆。˚

shining points of light

construct a celestial map

flung across my chest and back

every moment of shame

each passing second of bliss

an infinitesimal freckle of

combustion

forever painting my

void infused skin

༘⋆₊ ⊹★🔭๋࣭ ⭑⋆。˚

a rotating planosphere

projected across the

surface of my skull

a galaxy in cross-sections

each slide full, yet

inwardly inaccessible

memories escaping

puffs of gas, flaming

expanding

accreting

decimating every

thought and recollection

absorbing all impartially

good and evil no longer

stored separately

merciless gravity

tearing me asunder

༘⋆₊ ⊹★🔭๋࣭ ⭑⋆。˚

a nebula of disbelief

forms around

knocking knees

the circuitous path to escape the

well of human horror

highlights every fissure and fault

comet's hurtle and swarm

spiraling, knocking each other off course

illuminating hidden access to

my psyche, scattered and worn

the sins and prayers

crimes and triumphs

bear witness to their

blazing purpose

༘⋆₊ ⊹★🔭๋࣭ ⭑⋆。˚

the gaps between

constellation plots

flood filled with

dark matter

the primary component of

space and time

churning and pulling

at the strings of the past

invisible, indifferent to calculation

༘⋆₊ ⊹★🔭๋࣭ ⭑⋆。˚

the essence of my truth

something was always

filling my empty spaces

Wow this is awesome. It feels so powerfully cosmic, and the imagery of the stars for self exploration is really rad. Reminds me of Carl Sagan saying we’re all made of star stuff :) The fourth section ending in “blazing purpose” is the one that moved me the most, but the whole poem works so well in concert, the flow from the previous sections helps convey the emotional weight towards the end. Really good stuff

  • Void infused skin and braille biography, those were my favourites! Loved your beautiful poem!

  • An illuminating take on the challenge and we can all find some of ourselves in the stars
