The silence is solid
I breathe it in
It grounds me.
The stillness carries a presence
That is somehow heavy while it welcomes me in.
As the air leaves my lungs
And returns to my surroundings,
It crystallizes on the surface of
The ghosts that haunt me.
Their sheets visible as they sparkle in the last ray of sun climbing through the spindly branches
When my breath hits them,
The barely audible crackle cuts through the frozen molecules that surround me and
Solidify on each individual eyebrow hair
It is the only sound.
There are no other signs of life
Though there are signs that it was once present
And the hope that remains warm
Deep within me, that though the time is for hibernation,
One day, there will once again be an awakening
And I will take part in it along with this, now
Very still, comfortingly quiet
Landscape.
