The Serpent’s Gaze
The last thing you will see before death

The Serpent’s Gaze
Look into my eyes, the serpent said,
See death before it strikes you dead.
A whisper coils, a venomous tune,
Sung beneath a silver moon.
Your breath halts, your veins run cold,
Time unwinds, the stars grow old.
A dance of fate, a tangled thread,
One step closer—you’ll join the dead.
No sword can cut, no shield can save,
No prayer will reach beyond the grave.
For once you gaze, you are no more,
A statue on the forest floor.
So turn away, while choice remains,
Or bear the weight of endless chains.
The serpent waits, its hunger deep,
To drag you down… into its forever sleep

Wow this is awesome 💯
This line gave me chills "One step closer—you’ll join the dead"!! So funny - we must have both been in a reptilian mood today as I also wrote a snake inspired poem that is sitting in draft land limbo.
This is haunting, Marie. I immediately remembered Medusa.
Very well written, congrats 👏
To me this is kind of chilling for the reason of the serpent's words were chillingly expressed. Good job.
