The Roads Taken

Life's journeys are of such importance.

Think of all the things death will make you miss

The thrills of living in a world so weird and complicated

A feeling when you've satisfied that visceral need for something

Nay, perhaps it's the joy of electricity through you during that first kiss

-

You feel the energy life's experiences provide

Complicated emotions, twisted feelings, and confusing thoughts

What's the good without the bad in this twisted little world of ours

The most fulfilled are the ones who dared live it and not hide

-

Did you live both the good and the bad, and do it with your all

To hope for something special means hoping nothing was left on the table

To achieve everything a heart desires was a gamble

And if you played the game well, it meant being willing to take the great fall

-

Looking back is okay if thoughts are on fond memories from living

Dwell not on the failures, but view them as lessons of what not to do

Think only of the things that filled your heart along your journey

And hope to have lived a life that your pain was worth giving

-

Feel the warmth of the day upon your weary face

Breath in the smell of each and every rose you stumble upon

Worry less about the destination, as the journey will get you there

Slow down when you can, for life is not meant to be a race

-

Fear not the future of things to come your way

They are not all within your control my friends

Take heed to prepare for what you can

And be ready for the choice of fight, or fight another day

-

Life gives nothing to the unprepared mind unwilling to receive

It gives everything, but only to the brave and wise

Some are willing to take what's theirs, and some are smart enough to thrive

It all comes down to what you believe

-

It's still the journey that matters most

The roads less traveled and the ones that get you there

Watch what you do along those dusty gray highways

Let you not look in the mirror only to see at the end, your ghost

-

It is the journey that will decide your fate

Not of riches, success, or happiness

The journeys make us who we are

And choose if we avoid a future of pain and hate

-

So, be not all about the ending of the story you tell

And focus on where you're at and what you're doing today

Enjoy the trip along the way because you never know when it ends

Like the song says, this could be heaven, and this could be hell

-

It's up to you...

For Fun

would you care if i made a song about this and give you a credit and link to your poem in the description ?

  • Always have to appreciate a "Hotel California" reference, coming out as it did toward the end of my senior year of high school. More sage counsel, my friend.

This article makes me think about my own life journey. I've had my share of good and bad experiences, just like it says. It's so true that looking back, the fond memories stand out. And worrying less about the destination and enjoying the journey? That's something I need to remind myself of more often. How about you? Have you found that focusing on the journey makes a big difference in how you view life?
