I woke up this morning thinking of my father-in-law who died 2 years ago and my mother-in-law as she tries to carry on with her life. They were married for over 50 years, a huge feat in itself in this day and age when so many people divorce over quite often trivial things.

Today couples are fine during the good times but when the going gets tough which happens in all relationships instead of trying to sort things out they take the easy way out by ending their marriage. Why is this? That is a question we need to ask ourselves.

This idea is that we should always be happy, but this is unrealistic. Who said life was easy? We have small windows of pure happiness, but these fleeting moments are not enough to sustain a marriage. If we were always happy, then we would not cherish these joyful moments, as we do.

Past generations also had it hard, something the younger generation should understand. Every generation has its trials and tribulations and struggles alongside happiness such as children, marriage, a new job and so on.

When we are going through life's struggles then our friends and family are there for us to help us weather the passing storm by just being there and listening. They may not be able to change things but we know we are not alone in our pain.

Life is a gift to be cherished good and bad. The shortness of our time on earth is just a blip on the horizon, which is why we have to open ourselves up to the beauty that we wake up to each day and feel the joy in our hearts lift us up.

Opportunities abound if we look for them. Each one of us is unique with our special gifts and talents. We all have a role to play in the journey of life. We all matter to each one of us. Live your life to the full and embrace the intricacies of every second. Connect with your loved ones, help those in need and rejoice in this wonderful life!

I guess people are choosing to end their marriage over minor inconveniences because sometimes, they take self love and self respect too far
