The Real Villains

Day 22/365

Top Story - January 2025

You can make me the villain

in your story

if it helps you sleep better at night

just don’t blame me

in the morning

for your nightmares

when it was your own thoughts

that put you there.

you swam willingly

into the whirlpool

of manipulation

and spiraled

down to the bottom

until all you can see

is red

don’t you know know

THIS

is from what you have been fed?!

They gave you the plate,

but you,

YOU picked up the spoon

and shoveled the food

straight from the bull

into your own mouth

washed it down

with a pinch of salt.

Like Adam and the apple,

better you would have choked

than to believe serpentine lies.

THIS is why we can’t have paradise

How can you even trust yourself

as far as you can throw you?

What have you gained

by making enemies in the street

of people you have never seen?

Can’t you see??!!

This is what they all WANT.

Red and black venom lack

red and yellow kill a fellow

RED and BLUE

THEY ARE ALL AFTER YOU!

And I.

But we have turned a blind eye

on them

to sling mud and stones

at each other

… they give us bricks

to add to our own arsenals

They know this well!

They would cut off our arms

to spare us the ability

to hug

Because the greatest weapon

that would end their reign

is to love your neighbor

as your brother

You really nailed it with the whole idea of manipulation and how easily we get swept up in it—especially with how we’re given the tools to turn on each other without realizing we’re doing exactly what "they" want. The way you flipped the "villain" narrative is so powerful. And that ending? YES. Love is the ultimate weapon🤗👌🏽

Wow - this is just so profound. Starts off with a commentary on manipulation and self-induced blindness to it...but reaches even deeper into the roots of division and the need for a love deeper than fear. I don't know if I've ever seen a poem more deserving of a Top Story! Congratulations, masterfully done, and thank you for sharing, Ellie!
