The selection of last weeks winners for the rhyming contest was tough. We did come to a decision and even had some honorable mentions, first it was everyone and then we selected a few that got favorites votes.

This week the contest is a Crab Canon or a Haiku. I always encourage writers to try the selected contest choices, but they don't have to. I do my best to write one of each, or at least one of them each day.

I struggle with getting the crab canon right, so I thought this extra practice may come up with one I feel is a crab canon. Even if it is someone else's, a few have come up with different variations which is great. A haiku, crab canon for example! I love it.

Here are a few of mine and a couple of the variations:

Next week's contest, beginning on February 15, 2025 is:

A Crab Canon. The example is below.

and a Haiku, 5-7-5 syllables, usually written about love or nature. Doesn't need to rhyme.

ie:

Loving my hubby

Is easy to do for me

he's my soulmatey

And:

If you look for a description of a crab canon this comes up with no author - here is one place - QDT

Then I added: Feel free to enter what you'd like and write the poems you want.

Here are a few that came in yesterday and today, with three days left:

Lake Havasu, by Kathy Hron

Oh Lake Havasu

With your Paul Newman eyes, blue

Forever love you

I love the analogy of Lake Havasu with Paul Newman's eyes, especially coupled with that stunning photograph! 'Life I'm the Moment' is awesome in every way, not just the execution but the message it conveys! I've written numerous haikus but never a crab cannon. I'm going to think on that and see I can execute one in time. I don't want to go crazy throwing haikus at you 😂, but I'll drop a couple of mine. This one.... I don't know what to say about it. 🤷 I'll get back to you... https://shopping-feedback.today/poets/this-haiku-needs-a-subtitle%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
