The only lonely thing in the universe

-rest in peace David Lynch

By Melissa IngoldsbyPublished about a year ago 1 min read

I am so lonely yet I am never alone

I long to be alone

I long to be a blue, blue eyed star

Tears that flow like love down the body of the celestial vessel

I am so grateful to be able to feel the warmth and depth that is loneliness

The pure energy of this humble feeling of feeling deeply apart yet still entangled with the mortal spirit of this beautiful, scary collective

The collective of the people: angry, confused, scared, lost, loving, sad, joyful

to be a blue, blue star

Lonely, happy

Blue against the dark, crystal,

Pitch-frosty space

That’s pure nonsense in a perfectly logical way such as loving someone that only shows, knows indifference and hate

Disguised as love

How does it work inside of a black hole

Does the universe spit itself out and then make it look like a disappearing act?

Does the black hole need more light than energy to escape from its torment?

What did the insane force do to deserve its existence and fate?

I’ve been finally allowing myself to actually grieve lately

Because I didn’t cry at all for over a decade,

Crying so hard it feels like immediately

I’m really alive

The whole world of tears inside of my head, squeezing my heart down from my voice to my chest

I want to be the only lonely thing in the universe

That you have inside of a telescope

A few drops of Saturn and a sprinkle of dead stars into gold

Bars of dark blue light

Lonely, lonely

For the sad, soft dark

I love this poem, it beautifully captures the paradox of loneliness and connection, reminiscent of Lynch's cinematic brilliance.

  • :Does the universe spit itself out and then make it look like a disappearing act? Does the black hole need more light than energy to escape from its torment?" I especially loved these lines. Rest in peace David Lynch

Well-wrought! Lynch will be missed. His "The Elephant Man" had a profound effect on me. This line: "pure nonsense in a perfectly logical way" Story of my life! 🤣

This is hauntingly beautiful, like a galaxy of emotions wrapped in poetic stardust. It’s the kind of piece that lingers in your mind like the shimmer of distant stars. Stunning work!
