The One Who Never Returned

I waited forever, just for you

The One Who Never Returned

I waited by the old window,

Where your shadow last was seen,

The sky turned grey with longing,

The day sank into night.

Your footsteps never sounded,

Your voice stayed far away,

Yet still I shaped your presence,

In every passing hour.

The years kept moving forward,

Though time felt cold and thin,

My heart stayed locked in memories,

Of days you once called home.

Your love had left an imprint,

A mark I could not shake,

I traced it when I needed,

To remember who I was.

I kept the worn-out letters,

Though the ink began to fade,

Your words still breathed in silence,

Your name still held its weight.

The nights grew long around me,

The mornings felt the same,

Each moment held a question,

That never found reply.

I spoke to empty corners,

Hoping you might hear,

Across whatever distance,

Kept your footsteps from my door.

Some say love slowly weakens,

Some say the heart lets go,

Yet mine still knows your rhythm,

It beats in that old shape.

If you ever walk this way,

If you ever turn toward home,

You’ll find me by the window,

Still holding what you left.

Relationships come and go and some stay in other ways and some should just stay away. Good job.

A lovely poem, Maire, but looking at the image I think you are better off he didn't come back. Maybe he is still looking for a razor 😉😉
