A poem about letting go

I don’t want to be judged

I just want to be loved

You shielded me from the world

Thinking that you were protecting me

Y’all had good intentions

But all it brought me was

Tears and suffering

I couldn’t be me

I’m done being the daughter

You want me to be

I’m done giving in to

Your expectations

It’s time you let me free

Out of the cage

Flying free like a bird

Into the wind

It’s time to say goodbye

Time to leave

The nest
