The Mouse In The House

And aboard the ship.

A long time ago

Brother Mouse, I know

Came into my house

Don't like mice in my blouse

Except in an emergency

Frigid weather is you see

*

Great hardships

Heavy ships

In ports

Just have them aboard

Kitchens with no cats onboard

Likely you have seen them

Mice can cause mayhem

*

Not a nice time when

Overabundance and then

Put them out to sea

Quietly

Rose, my cat would have liked that

Staying aboard a ship for a rat

*

The many meals she would eat

Under the Captain's seat.

Vultures may have one or two

While they head out to sea too

Xtra's for a few others to put in the stew

You never know what goes into a big pot

Zebra, no, no, I say not!

*****

We had our share of mice this past winter. We did not turn them into pets to shelter. It helped to remember seeing one or two in houses I lived in as a newlywed, onboard ships, and even in some larger cities in the street. It helped me to think it could be worse and how none would be sweet!

I recognize people own mice as pets and that some feed live mice and rats to their pet snake. I am not that person, at least not yet for Pete's sake.

You brought me back memories. We had quite a few mice in the first apartment I lived in when I arrived in Canada. It wasn't fun. lol Lovely poem!

  • Oh wow! An Abecedarian is really challenging and you made it rhyme as well! Excellent poem!

I don't mind mice...but I would not take them as friends...yet. Nice work here! ;)
