Though I had to set out from home early today,
And miss the morning news highlights,
The highlights came to me in another way,
With some unexpected insights.
My breaths glowed silver in the cold morning air,
While frosted spiderwebs glowed white everywhere,
And the horizon glowed red with the sun’s first light
Against the black shadow of the previous night.
As the sun’s red rays spread over the landscape,
The rooftops and treetops began to take shape;
Black shadows, red sunlight, silver breaths, and white frost,
And in only an hour, they all had been lost.
Though I did want to hear today’s headlines, surely,
I did get the news after all;
It was that I shouldn’t mind getting up early
Because the world is beautiful.
