In the vast sky’s endless space,

You, O moon, are beauty and grace.

Your color pale, like golden light,

Whose heart have you pierced tonight?

Like me, you seem sorrowful, alone,

No one beside you, on your own.

Should you blaze your beauty bright,

If from your love you’re cast from sight?

Tell me softly, O delicate one,

What has love to you now done?

Restless still, you roam the sky,

Gliding through the night on high.

My heart burns with love sincere,

Come, let us sit together here.

I’ll bare my soul, my secrets share,

You’ll wrap me in your loving care.

Together we’ll divide love’s pain,

Don’t cry alone in silent rain.

Beautiful and lovely you are,

A maiden shining like a star.

As you are now, so were you then,

A friend to lovers where and when.

Poor Majnun would lose his mind,

If you and he were thus combined.

You knew Shirin’s secret grief,

And shared Ferhad’s love and belief.

When secrets of love were told,

You were the lamp that lit the fold.

The martyrs of love gazed at you,

And softly wept for what they knew.

Mountains find their beauty in you,

Stars are drawn to your glow true.

Flowers stand tall in your light,

Youthful hearts are set alight.

Girls admire you in delight,

And lovers place their hopes in sight.

Faithful beloved, pure and true,

A piece of a lover’s heart is you.

A wounded lover’s aching heart,

Moon, you shine in every part.

Among your peers, there’s none your peer,

Alone you wander heaven clear.

When love in hearts was nowhere found,

You turned in anger toward the ground.

You found no loyal soul to stay,

However much you searched your way.

All are painless; none knows pain,

All are powerless; none can reign.
