The Monster

There's Nothing More Lonely Than Being Unique

It often finds itself growing frustrated;

Forever trapped, imprisoned in a mind surrounded by thistles and thorns;

Guarded by claws and fangs

Protecting the hopeless dreamer from the bitter bite of reality

What would it take to release the heart of the beast from a prison of its own creation?

The beast has often pondered this question

Wondered what It would have to sacrifice to join the others beyond its cage

Even longer, the beast wondered - Did it want to?

Throughout the beast’s life people looked down at the beast’s cage from the outside

They pitied the beast; The beast pitied them for not having a cage

The beast wasn’t afraid.

The beast wasn’t trapped. The beast’s cage was hers and hers alone.

Inside the beast’s cage, the beast had the freedom to do as it pleased.

The cage was a breeding ground of new ideas and innovative systems

Untouched by the systematic ideology of society beyond it’s cage.

Soon enough, the beast reached a higher level of thinking and understanding of it’s world

With that came disdain, distrust, and disgust of the barbarians outside of her cage

Why was she the only one wise enough to see their flawed way of life?

Knowing that others did not think like she, the beast coiled up in the back of her cage

Nothing is more lonely than learning that you’re unique

It wasn’t the cage that was keeping her trapped. It was herself

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t change herself

No matter how many came up to the cage to change her, they all reached the same result

Failure

Failure to change the mind of the beast

Even as the beast opened up it’s heart to those brave enough to wander near

It’s heart being an extension of it’s mind

They all failed to understand the way of the beast

The beast no longer expects anyone to

Expectations are for those foolish enough to lead with their hearts

In this world, there is only success and failure

The beast doesn’t tolerate failure

The beast works on it’s own to change it’s own world to her liking

The beast lies in wait on it’s throne, waiting for the day she'll show everyone they’re wrong

She’s not to be pitied

She’s to be feared

She’s to be worshipped

The beast works alone as she always has

It’s better that way

In her mind, this is fact. Not opinion

Until she catches sight of a cage much like hers

Inside of it, a beautiful monster

The beast loses sight of everything it’s ever known

All of its values

All of its ideals

All has been tainted by the sight of a magnificent soul

She’s unraveling

The deepest depths of her heart on full display...

The beast finds herself wanting to be alone on her throne…...with the monster

The beast finds herself wanting to dominate the world…..with the monster

The beast finds herself wanting to stay in her own cage for all eternity….with the monster

The beast finds parts of her inner cage slipping away

She’s vulnerable

Tainted

Poisoned

Naked

Weak

Allowing access

To the monster

surreal poetry
