The Locket

POV of an inanimate object

By Gabriel DentlerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Once I softly kissed her neck,

A piece of her I crowned,

Until I broke and fell away,

Away upon the ground.

Never should I see her then,

But many things I've seen,

And sitting still one only dreams,

Of places I have been.

I saw the bleakest winterscape,

Beneath the clearest sky,

I saw two lovers share a kiss,

And I've seen others die.

Trees have grown upon my grave,

And horses gallop free,

Wars have raged and blood been shed,

And I remain to see.

I've felt the cool of softest rain,

And warmed beneath the sun,

I mingle with the emerald blades,

I've scarcely just begun.

Years have turned my sight to dust,

And yet I hear all these,

In rest beneath a family,

That men built over me.

Though sightless, still and silent,

Nary shall I moan,

For I'm content to lie and wait,

Beneath a loving home .
