The Little Girl In Me

A Sonnet

The imaginations of childhood,

For so long praised.

But what happens when you reach adulthood,

And from those fantasies our expectations are raised?

We're promised anything we can imagine,

Make believe in our heads and it will come true.

But how do you cope with that inevitable chasm -

Between what's imagined and what's attainable too?

But no matter what, I won't regret the dreaming.

The birthday candles saved up for this.

Because without it I'd be drifting -

Not knowing what little me was on her way to wish.

So keep on dreaming, the little girl in me,

Or else I won't know where to stand, you see.
