The Life of the Man

Simple Poem by the Young at Heart

By KeeleyPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

There was a man

Every day he sat under a tree and thanked God for the day he had.

He thanked God for his family, his house, and his job.

This man was very thankful and never greedy.

And then there was a tragedy.

He had lost his daughter. A daughter he had loved very much.

He returned to the tree once again.

He looked at the sunset, a beautiful thing.

And cried out. He cried out to God.

"Why did you take her from me? Why did you break my heart?"

He received no answer. So he watched the small sliver of the sun slip away.

The next day he returned to the tree to watch the sunset.

He sat against the trunk and closed his eyes.

His tears slowly started to fall.

He hears a voice.

So familiar, so soothing.

"I love you" he hears

Opening his eyes, he sees a small white dove fly away.

He stands, and thanks God for this day, for his family, his job.

The man watches the sun slip away and returns home to be with his family.
