The Life in the Light

By Shakina Johnson

By Shakina JohnsonPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

The White glare seems too bright, It blocks my perception, and at times, it brings to mind,

Yellow sunlight something too sweet and kind to touch the land with its hand, yet

Orange rays still bless this forsaken rock with light in arrays of colour.

Red pigment draining from my bones, a single thought comes to mind.

Purple men in suits who say even blind men see complexion with honour

Blue in my eyes will always remind me I’m alive with a sting of joy.

The colour around me sings.

Green of flora felt through every muscle in my body as long as I lived in this glorious light.

When my radiance leaves and all goes black, at least I’ll know what it felt like to be blessed.
