After the Storm

a winter tale

Teddy bear in the snow (pexels.com)

After the storm of winter snow there sat a small bear by the name Ted, of course. He loves the snow and likes to roll around in it making all sorts of trails and whatever he has a mind to do. He wondered where all the people are, but in a way, he is hoping that they are all snug in the homes maybe drinking hot chocolate-one of his favorite drinks with mini-marshmallows and eating something homemade for he likes this winter wonderland all to himself to romp and play and maybe even catch some fish down by the river.

After he ran a while through the woods he did spy a few of his little friends like Mr. and Mrs. Squirrel and The Chipmunk Family. He guessed that they liked this winter wonderland as much as he did. They were all out running and jumping through the snow, well the little ones were and the mom and dad were gathering food, I suppose for their winter store. Ted decided to move on, and he heard the birds twittering and tweeting through the trees, so he decided to sit a while and just listen to their songs.

He must have sat there for quite a while for the snow started to fall again and he had to shake himself off of the fluffy white stuff, but he didn't mind for off he went down to the stream for he was getting a bit hungry and decided to go catch some fish and on his way he spotted a berry bush the birds were eating and he hoped they left some for him for he loved berries. He lucked out for they will make quite the appetizer for his main course of trout for he was in his opinion quite the fisherman.

He waddled down to the stream where he knew the fish were swimming this time of day and he slowly approached and gently swiped the water, but he missed the first one but caught the next and thoroughly enjoyed it and tried and succeeded for seconds. After he was finished, he drank some of the fresh cold water and continued his romp through the woods. Then he looked up at the sky and noticed the sun was starting to go down and he decided to start to head home. He wasn't in too much of a hurry for he wanted to check on his other friend who lived in a shack by the railroad tracks.

On he went and he saw the smoke for his friends' chimney and off he ran. Ted decided to go around back, and he scratched at the door. His friend looked out the door but didn't see anyone. He closed the door, then he thought to look again. He went to open the door, and wouldn't you know it Ted decided to give him a great big bear hug and he invited him in. His friend offered him some of his evening meal of grits and honey and Ted happily slurped it up and they both smiled and laughed at each other. Ted stayed for a while and listened to his friend play his music and sing a song, but after a while Ted decided to head home and his friend shook Ted's paw and opened the door for him to take his leave.

Off he went to his nice warm home just a little way down the path and he shook off the snow that had started to fall, then he headed over to his bed in the corner and settled down for he was quite sleepy after his romp in the woods after the storm. Good night.
