The Last Letter

When Words Remain

By RKPublished about a year ago 2 min read

If tomorrow starts without me,

Please know that I'm still here,

In the letters I'll never send,

And the words you’ll hold dear.

If tomorrow starts without me,

Please know that I’m still near,

Sitting quietly beside you,

Wiping away each tear.

I’ve left behind a letter,

Tucked safely in the drawer,

Folded neatly in an envelope,

Sealed with love forevermore.

It’s not a long farewell,

Just some things I wanted to say:

But you’ll find me in those pages,

Every single day.

Remember the time at the lake?

When we fished until the night,

Or when we danced in the kitchen,

Under the warm, dim light.

I’ve written about those moments,

Captured them in ink,

Hoping you’ll revisit them,

Whenever you need to think.

I’ve told you how proud I am,

Of the person you’ve become,

And how, even in my absence,

I know you’ll overcome.

The world’s a bit quieter now,

But your voice will fill the space,

With laughter, joy, and wisdom,

And that gentle, caring grace.

You’ll find my favorite stories,

The ones we loved to share,

And though I’m not there to tell them,

They’ll linger in the air.

Remember our long walks,

Down the old country lane,

Where we spoke of life and love,

And the dreams we tried to gain.

The leaves crunching underfoot,

The wind whispering through the trees,

I’ve written about those moments,

Captured in these memories.

If you ever doubt yourself,

Or feel lost along the way,

Just read the words I’ve left,

They’ll guide you through each day.

I’ve seen your strength and courage,

In every step you take,

And I know you’ll keep going,

Your heart will never break.

In the letter, you’ll find the recipe,

For the cookies we loved to bake,

And the secret to my apple pie,

That always took the cake.

You’ll see a note about the garden,

Where we spent so many hours,

Tending to the roses,

And picking springtime flowers.

Remember the stories I told you,

Of my childhood long ago,

They’re written here in detail,

So you’ll always know.

If tomorrow starts without me,

And you feel the weight of grief,

Just open up the letter,

And find a bit of relief.

Though I’m not beside you,

In the way that I have been,

My love is still surrounding you,

In ways you’ve never seen.

I’ve left you words of comfort,

And a bit of advice too,

To carry you through the hard times,

And help you start anew.

Remember the lessons I taught you,

About kindness and respect,

They’re written here in ink,

So you’ll never forget.

And when you feel alone,

Or the days seem too long,

Read my words of encouragement,

And know that you’re strong.

For in every letter I’ve written,

You’ll find a piece of me,

A guide for your journey,

Wherever you may be.

If tomorrow starts without me,

Please know that I’m still near,

In every word, in every line,

In every whispered tear.

So keep this letter close,

And read it when you’re blue,

Though tomorrow starts without me,

My love’s still here with you.

When you reach the end of this letter,

And the words have all been read,

Close your eyes and remember,

The life we’ve always led.

Feel the warmth of my embrace,

The laughter we used to share,

For though I’m gone in body,

In spirit, I’m always there.

So live your life with courage,

And face each day anew,

Though tomorrow starts without me,

I’m always here with you.
