The Key to My Heart

If you ever wonder what would be that special key to unlock my heart and win me over

A key that is surely the most elusive and the hardest to obtain,

You offer me tales and feats of your own to impress me

The key budges a little but fails to turn

I'm genuinely impressed with your accomplishments

but wonder if they're just a plot to gain my heart

You offer me flowers so pleasantly vibrant and lovely

I smile, most appreciative of your gesture

The key shifts into my heart appearing to work but falters

And now you wonder, what's the key?

A key that is surely the most elusive and the hardest to obtain,

Little by little, as you gain my trust, I reveal bits and pieces of myself to you

The things that I love, the things that I hate

many of these things are so miniscule I wonder … 

Will you remember? …

My favorite color despite mentioning it just once? 

Will you recall that I despise olives with a burning passion?

That I prefer autumn to spring?

Chocolate to vanilla?
