The Key That Fit My Door
Opened my deepest fear of the man who turned it

The Key That Fit My Door
The key that fit my door
was never meant to open me
only to warn
to remind
to frighten
He turned it
slow and sure
not to unlock
but to twist
deep inside
I lived behind that lock
waiting for silence
waiting for peace
but never safe
Every creak in the hall
every shadow at dusk
was the key’s echo
a threat in disguise
a promise of pain
I learned how to shrink
how to disappear
how to count the seconds
until the key would turn again
It was never my home
just a cage with a view
where fear wore the shape of him
and hope was just a word
I could not say aloud
The key that fit my door
was a promise made in shadows
and I learned
some locks
are meant to keep you trapped
But one day
I will find the key
to break the lock
to leave the door open wide
and walk away
without looking back

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️

I bet a lot of people whatever their issue(s) may be think the same thing as you describe in the poem. Great job.
