The Illusion of Flight: A Dream of Soaring High
A short poem with rhythm and suspense, where a woman dreams of flying with wings, but faces a stormy obstacle

She stood at the edge of the cliff so high
Gazing out at the endless sky
A feeling of longing deep inside
To soar above the clouds and glide
She closed her eyes and took a breath
And with a leap, she cheated death
For she had wings that none could see
And now, at last, she was free
She soared up high and felt the breeze
As she flew with grace and ease
But soon she saw, with growing fright
A stormy cloud that blocked her sight
She tried to fly around the cloud
But soon she saw, with terror loud
That it was bigger than she thought
And her wings were growing taut
She flew into the cloud, brave and strong
And heard the sound of thunder's song
But then she felt her wings give way
And began to fall, her heart in disarray
She plummeted down with a scream
Until she woke up from her dream
For it was only in her mind
That she could fly and leave all behind.
