Out in the middle of nowhere,

there is a hospital on stilts.

And the astonishing thing,

no one can say how or when it was built.

But there it stands,

only to be reached by scaling.

I thought, "How remarkable! Instead of falling, it heals those who are ailing."

Then one day, a nurse came down a ladder,

I said, "Ma'am, I have questions concerning a matter."

"How is it possible, this hospital can stand?"

And this is how she answered my subtle demand,

"The balance is achieved by helping those that are hurting."

"Every visiting person is treated the same and none less deserving."

I replied, "Wow, I appreciate that explanation regarding this incredible palace."

And ever since then

the hospital in my head

has managed to stay balanced.
