The Homestead

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 months ago 2 min read

(Verse 1)

They closed on my old homestead today,

Where laughter echoed long, a place to stay.

Secluded in the woods, with dreams so bright,

On the porch, I’d watch the stars light up the night.

Deer danced in the backyard, wild and free,

In that little house, I found the best of me.

(Chorus)

I was nothing, but I am everything,

In memories’ embrace, my heart takes wing.

Though I’m a footnote in a fading tale,

Love's a river that will never pale.

With every breath, I’m learning to fly,

In the hearts of those who said goodbye.

(Verse 2)

Three years since I left this earthly shore,

My belongings scattered, but I’m so much more.

Seventy years of hopes wrapped up in a sigh,

Dissipating like mist beneath the sky.

I held onto everything, now I let it go,

In the stillness of time, it’s love that I sow.

(Chorus)

I was nothing, but I am everything,

In memories’ embrace, my heart takes wing.

Though I’m a footnote in a fading tale,

Love's a river that will never pale.

With every breath, I’m learning to fly,

In the hearts of those who said goodbye.

(Bridge)

Transitions are gentle, like a soft autumn breeze,

Leaving behind my shadows with grace and ease.

What I’ve shared, what I’ve known,

Is etched in their hearts, I’m never alone.

(Verse 3)

So raise a glass to the moments we shared,

To lessons in gratitude, how much I cared.

In the dance of the trees and the whispers of night,

I’m still with you, wrapped in love’s light.

Though I fade like a shadow, I brighten the dawn,

In every laugh and tear, my spirit lives on.

(Chorus)

I was nothing, but I am everything,

In memories’ embrace, my heart takes wing.

Though I’m a footnote in a fading tale,

Love's a river that will never pale.

With every breath, I’m learning to fly,

In the hearts of those who said goodbye.

(Outro)

So remember the joy, and remember the glee,

In the stories we’ve woven, I’ll always be free.

From my old homestead, I bid you adieu,

In the love that we shared, I live on in you.
