In shadows dim, Old Marcus plied his trade,
A merchant cursed by voices that speak at night.
His brother’s name they spoke, a sound forbade,
A theft that doomed his fortune, life and light.
**********************************************************************
On moonlit streets, appeared a sight so grim,
His brother’s pale form loomed, with hallowed gaze.
“Forgive me” was a whisper, soft and thin,
And Old Marcus burned in wrath’s unyielding blaze.
**********************************************************************
But Guilt, a serpent, round his spirit coiled,
Though his blood was thick, his hatred deeper grew.
He fought to purge his wayward soul embroiled,
To yield to Mercy’s call, sound faint, but true.
**********************************************************************
At midnight’s toll, the Earth was dark, and still,
His brother’s shade returned to meet his eyes -
A theft paid hatred’s fatal, fateful bill,
A soul for gold; now Marcus joins demise.

Marcus dies? That's so sad 🥺🥺
As someone who harbors a lot of guilt and shame, I absolutely love a tale of forgiveness, and this one is no exception. Incredible work!
What a chillingly cool poem! The drama, the ghosts, and that twisty tale of guilt and forgiveness hit hard. Marcus’s story totally grabs you—it’s haunting but in the best way. Love how it flows!
