Jolts of electricity

to my severed heart

as my eyes wander

through the headlines

and small print

the forgotten children

lost in battle, abuse

the forgotten men

lost to suicide, abuse

the forgotten women

lost to oppression, abuse

the forgotten people

-

-

-

lost

-

-

-

limbs of elasticity

on the dirty floor

as I just give up

-

for a moment

-

give in to the sadness

the horror around me

crimes of complicity

by the... anyone, who

ever turned their cheek

looked the other way

didn't

-

-

speak up

This is so effective and a sad commentary on much of mankind… ‘ small print the forgotten children lost in battle, abuse’. We can’t save everyone in need, but if we each do what we can, what a different world it would be.

I like the flow of this Paul, as it feels very stream of consciousness, and especially the repetition of abuse part. Powerful, and seeing it from another perspective helps get us closer to the picture 👏

Wow. Just wow. Moved. Numb. Speechless. You have plumbed the depths with this one, Paul.

I really like the spaces in between, to take a moment to absorb. Wonderful work, Buddy.

    This is so powerful Paul.

  • Just beautiful and so true, Paul. How did people turn so cruel to each other? The concept is a gem in your capable hands.

So powerful! I loved the gaps that give the poem a unique rhythm and pause to think.
